Via Postumia

Our hills are also crossed by the Via Postumia, a trail that connects Aquileia to Genoa and continues toward Santiago de Compostela; this path was established in 2013 from a project led by Andrea Vitiello, the passionate president of the Amici della Via Postumia association, who mapped out a safe route across various regions (yellow VP trail markers) in the footsteps of the ancient Roman road already traveled by many pilgrims.

The 3 sections

of the itinerary

Part 1

Aquileia – Vicenza 330 km / 12 stages

The Via Postumia begins in Aquileia, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, less than 30 km from the border with Slovenia, in a region rich in history, culture, and nature. A UNESCO World Heritage site since 1998, Aquileia was one of the wealthiest and most important cities of the Roman Empire during the Middle Ages, playing a central role in the spread of Christianity in Central Europe...

Part 2

Vicenza – Piacenza 355 km / 13 stages

From Vicenza, you leave the city to venture for two days into the Berici Hills until reaching the town of Lonigo. On the green hills, you will find woods, rows of vineyards, fruit trees, and cultivated fields. For the first time since the start of the journey, the traveler will face brief ascents and descents, reaching an altitude of 300 meters. The landscape will thus move away from the usual routine...

Part 3

Piacenza – Genoa 247 km / 9 stages

From Piacenza, the landscape finally begins to change. You face the first hills, immediately reaching an altitude of 300m. The elevation gain is not demanding but offers the traveler moments in the shade of the woods, at altitude, and within a context completely different from the previous 600 km...
