The AltaVia is a purely naturalistic itinerary intended for hikers, bikers, and horses—with the exception of motor vehicles—divided into 11 sections, forming the future backbone of so-called slow tourism and the greenways of the Berici Hills. It was designed for those who love to immerse themselves in nature, tackle climbs and descents, observe flora and fauna, discover typical stone walls, admire solitary shrines and quiet fountains, small villages and isolated hamlets, explore caves and quarries, and enjoy panoramas of incredible beauty.
The AltaVia project was born from the idea and active commitment of the Consorzio Pro Loco Colli Berici and the Municipalities of the Berica Area, with the Municipality of Villaga as the lead partner, for the historical-ethnographic recovery of old roads (which are now often forest paths). The intent is to create an integrated and wide-ranging tourism plan immersed in the Hills: all other thematic itineraries developed in the Berici Hills, as well as the numerous existing nature trails, can start from and/or connect to the AltaVia, while also allowing each Municipality to establish a descent from the AltaVia to the valley town.
Each stage is designed to be accessible by car for arrival and departure, so that the entire route can be completed either all at once or at different times. It is up to you, the hikers, to decide the length and duration of the itinerary, choose whether to be accompanied by a local guide, equip yourselves with a hiking map, or download it directly from the websites to be guided by GPS, or simply follow the signage. The duration of each stage is intended for hikers on foot.
